Virginity: A surgery away

I learned in nursing school that anything is now possible in medicine and that surgery is working its way into turning people not blessed with wonderful physical beauty into gods and goddesses. Medical technology has developed ways to reverse what nature has destroyed or modify whatever it is that can be altered in the human body. A surgical lesion, silicone and implants can do wonders to the female body. Procedures done on the operating table can change one’s physicality and boost his confidence and personality.

I once read in a local newspaper that with the advancement of medical technology, “virginity is just one cosmetic surgery away…”. I shrugged off the idea as I was not familiar with such surgical operation and I do not think that it is being practiced here in the country. As a third world country bounded by religious ideals, I do not think our society has accepted such medical procedure until one day.

I was about to have a facial in a medical clinic in one of the biggest malls in the metro, as I was browsing the list of services, I was surprised to see one of the services offered: “Virginity Restoration”. For a mere sum of 80, 000 pesos, a woman can regain back her innocence through surgery, not to mention it is done in one of the malls. Perhaps, while her male partner is window shopping in the mall, a medical procedure is being done to bring back what was lost and when he returns to pick her up, he meets an “inexperienced woman”. With whom he is married for at least 20 years and has 5 children or more.
